Rowac-Schemel Tall Black
The 'Rowac-Schemel', meaning 'stool', was a ubiquitous sight in factories, workshops and schools across Germany from the 1900s until the 1950s. Made and designed by Rowac around the turn of the 20th century, its pioneering, lightweight and durable pressed metal construction proved indispensable to workers and students alike.
Walter Gropius, the founder of the Bauhaus, was so impressed by the Rowac-Schemel that he specified the stool to be used across his newly constructed Bauhaus building in Dessau, 1926. Today, the brand has been revived and production of the Rowac-Schemel has returned to Germany.
The new founders are committed to local production, working together with traditional craftsmen in the Ore Mountains. The constituent parts of the stool are produced within a radius of just 40km. The Rowac-Schemel represents timeless design combined with functional, indestructible and honest construction.
